Pink Floyd will celebrate 50 years of Wish You Were Here with a lavish reissue, including six previously unreleased studio demos and several live bootleg concerts. Announced exactly 50 years after the original album landed on shelves, Wish You Were Here 50 will arrive on 3LP, 2CD, Blu-ray, digital, and deluxe box set on December 12th [pre-order].

After 1973’s The Dark Side of the Moon took Pink Floyd from a breakout British psychedelic rock band to global superstars, the band returned to the studio for its eighth album. With that heightened fame and attention, conversely came isolation and disillusionment. Those feelings of alienation and the hollowness of fame, coupled with the absence of co-founder Syd Barrett from the band’s meteoric rise, would form Wish You Were Here‘s foundation, inspiring the band through the rest of the decade, culminating in Roger Waters‘ 1979 rock opera, The Wall.

The digital version of Wish You Were Here 50 features the original album with a new Dolby Atmos mix, plus 25 bonus tracks, including nine studio rarities and 16 live recordings. Famed bootlegger Mike Millard captured the audio at Pink Floyd’s April 26th, 1975 show at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, released here officially for the first time, with audio meticulously restored and remastered by Steven Wilson.

On the Blu-ray version, fans can watch three concert films from Floyd’s 1975 tour, plus an unspecified short film from legendary Hipgnosis founder Storm Thorgerson. The 3LP and 2CD formats include the original album plus the nine bonus studio tracks. The deluxe box set includes all 3LP, 2CD, and Blu-ray material, a clear vinyl version of Live At Wembley 1974, a replica Japanese 7″ single of “Have A Cigar” b/w “Welcome to the Machine”, a hardcover book of previously unreleased photos, a tour program, and a Knebworth concert poster.

The six unreleased studio recordings include an instrumental, rough mix of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, Waters’ original home demo for “Welcome to the Machine” (then titled “The Machine Song”), an alternate take on “Wish You Were Here” and Gilmour’s isolated pedal steel mix, and—for the first time—all nine parts of album epic “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” presented in order, rather than bookending the album. With today’s announcement, Pink Floyd shared “The Machine Song (Demo #2, Revisited)”, a stripped-back version of the haunting condemnation of the shallow music business.
