Veteran funk outfit Tower of Power is celebrating the release of the band’s 21st album, Step Up, available on Friday, March 20th on both CD and LP formats via Artistry Music. The 14-track studio project follows the band’s 2018 album, Soul Side of Town, and features a mix of new material that includes previously-released singles “Step Up” and “Let’s Celebrate Our Love”.
The third official single from the album, “Look in my Eyes”, delivers a high-energy punch of horn-filled funk from start to finish. The song continuously moves with a bounce while keeping the listener engaged in the action.
Ahead of the album’s release tomorrow, Live For Live Music is excited to premiere the official music video for “Look In My Eyes”, which only adds to the excitement of the track. The video layers live performance shots and clips of fans dancing in the streets next to (and on top of) each other with vibrantly-colored borders to add a wholesome yet festive aesthetic to the song’s party-starting funk groove.
As founding member and bandleader Emilio Castillo explains to Live For Live Music about the new “Look In My Eyes” video,
It’s been over 30 years since Tower of Power made a video and making this new one was quite an experience. The song Is “Look In my Eyes” written by Rocco Prestia and his buddy from Spyro Gyra, Tom Schuman. Rocco brought the bottom and the serious funk and Tom brought the jazz and the vocal element to the song. There’s onstage live action with the band; Marcus singin’ & dancin’ with two bodacious female vocalists, and me, Emilio Castillo, trading jazz scat vocal licks back & forth with Tommy Politzer’s soulful sax. There’s a bunch of cool street scenes with some very hip dancers partying and carrying on. All in all an ultra cool video experience. It’s sure to be enjoyed by ToP fans round the world!

Upcoming east coast performances on Tower of Power’s ongoing Step Up Tour were recently postponed—along with the rest of the industry—and will be rescheduled to later in the year. According to last week’s announcement from the band, all shows scheduled for April onward are still on as planned, but fans should check back to the band’s website in the coming weeks to confirm.
Until then, you can enjoy the new “Look in my Eyes” video today and listen to the new album, Step Up, when it drops on Friday.
