Last week, Pretty Lights made a mysterious post on Facebook that read: “I’m no longer satisfied making ‘music’ to ‘release’ on ‘albums’. Different is coming.” Tonight, he reveals a sliver of what that means with a new music video, to which he introduces as “a new era for PL,” fully produced from his recent visit to Telluride, Colorado. The track introduces Derek Vincent Smith and The Analog Future Band as “Pretty Lights,” indicating more of a wholesome union than a once-in-a-while collaboration.

The band features familiar faces Adam Deitch (drums), Eric Krasno (guitar), and Eric Bloom (trumpet) from Lettuce, Borahm Lee (keys) of Break Science, as well as Brian Koogan (keys), Chris Karns (turntables), Scott Flynn (trombone), and a special guest appearance from Michal Menert.

The new sounds of “Only Yesterday” are indefinable, yet comfortingly relatable by nature – an old school vibe with a new school touch. As Derek describes it, the track aims “to express something very honest about how it can feel like an ongoing struggle to truly be yourself.  The video is a piece of cinematic nostalgia, and an effort to collectively acknowledge how important it can be for an individual to find meaningful connection with their FRIENDS.”

If this video is any indication that the live band will be defining the progressive direction of Pretty Lights’ productions, we can’t wait to see what more the “friends” have in store.Â
