Primus played its first show with new drummer John Hoffman over the weekend at Tool‘s Live in the Sand destination festival in the Dominican Republic.
Before debuting the band’s new lineup, Primus welcomed Tool drummer Danny Carey to sit in on the first four songs—”Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers”, “Too Many Puppies”, “American Life”, and “Here Come the Bastards”.
Then, about midway through the set, fans got to witness Hoffman’s first official performance with his new bandmates Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde. The trio played four more songs—”Harold of the Rocks”, “Groundhog’s Day”, “Duchess and the Proverbial Mind Spread”, and “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver”—before Carey returned to the drum throne to close out the set with “My Name is Mud”.

Later that night, Tool would return to the stage for a set with several songs repeated from the night before, despite promising to play two unique sets, leaving many fans puzzled and disappointed.
