Just over a year ago, Prophets of Rage–a politically-charged supergroup comprised of Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine, Chuck D and DJ Lord of Public Enemy, and B-Real of Cypress Hill–burst into existence with an angry bang. The outfit, described by Morello in 2016 as “an elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bullshit,” came together for a string of summer amphitheater shows following their widely buzzed-about maiden shows in LA and Brooklyn featuring a mix of material by RATM, Pubblic Enemy, and Cypress Hill. The band also promised that they would be recording original music.
The promise was fulfilled last month with the Michael Moore-directed “Unfuck the World,” the first single from the upcoming self-titled debut LP Prophets of Rage–due out September 15. Today, the super group releases the second single, “Living on the 110.”
About the song, Morello said in a statement,”‘Living on the 110’ is a song that speaks to the issue of homelessness,” according to Rolling Stone. “The 110 is a freeway in Los Angeles and living beneath it are thousands of homeless people. Bentleys and Rolls Royces roaring by are literally driving on top of the poor and their makeshift homes, a picture perfect analogy for the grotesque economic inequality that plagues our times.”
