On Friday, November 24th, an all-star band featuring Shira Elias (Turkuaz), Brian Jay (Pimps of Joytime), James Casey (Trey Anastasio Band), and more will come together at Westbury, NY’s Steel Event Space for a fundraiser benefitting the people of Puerto Rico whose lives were turned upside down on September 20th when Hurricane Maria slammed the island.

One of the most devastating natural disasters in Puerto Rico’s history, the storm ravaged the island’s infrastructure, leaving hundreds of thousands of its inhabitant without access to clean water, food, or power, and severely diminished access to roads and communications. Even now, nearly two months after Maria landed in Puerto Rico, a large portion of the island is still without power and other basic human amenities. However, Federal aid to Puerto Rico–whose residents are all legal citizens of the United States–has been marked by its snail-like pace and disorganization, and generally criticized by the world at large.
