Calling all Deadheads! Previously unreleased live footage is coming soon to a record store near you!

Celebrating Record Store DayGrateful Dead archivist David Lemieux is preparing a vinyl release of the band’s first ever performance at the legendary Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA.

The original performance took place on May 4, 1979, and the vinyl release will reportely contain the second half of the first set, in addition to the entire second set. The Dead didn’t play an encore that night, apparently.

Record Store Day is scheduled for April 19th. The official list of records will be released in the middle of March, but so far, Wax Poetic estimates that nearly 400 different vinyl LPs will be unveiled on Record Store Day. Cool!
