Red Hot Chili Peppers welcomed jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington to jam with the band at Yaamava’ Theater in Highland, CA near San Bernardino Tuesday night.

The surprise sit-in came during the song “Aquatic Mouth Dance”, from the Chili Peppers’ Rick Rubin-produced 2022 album Unlimited Love.

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, who has a well-documented love of jazz, took to social media to express gratitude and excitement about sharing the stage with the towering saxophonist.

“[The] deep honor of throwing down with the great Kamasi Washington was had last night!” Flea wrote in a post that included a clip of the sit-in. “[Wish] i had the whole clip, but damn it was bangin!!!”

The band also posted about the inspired jam, writing, “Magical show in Highland and this Aquatic Mouth Dance jam with our friend, wonderfully talented musician and beautiful soul Kamasi Washington took things to a spiritual level. Such a fun night. Thank you”
