The whole point of graffiti is to make people sit up and take notice, making it one of the easiest, cheapest and most effective promotional methods out there. The question is, has Arcade Fire been purposefully utilizing this fact to promote for their new album? In recent days mysterious graffiti has appeared in cities around the world featuring a diamond within a circle and the world “Reflektor” inscribed in the middle. At least two different street artists responsible for the markings have stated that the graffiti is part of a new campaign for indie rock band Arcade Fire promoting the title of the band’s upcoming fourth LP, which is being produced by LCD Soundsystem front man and DFA Records co-founder James Murphy.

An Instagram account has also popped up promoting the image. Featuring a compilation of “Reflektor” graffiti that have been featured online as well as a video of a street artist writing out the word “Reflektor” to music reminiscent of Arcade Fire. This video was also displayed to audiences prior to Arcade Fire’s sets at Lollapalooza and Osheaga this past weekend.
