Riot Fest returned for a rampage of a weekend at Chicago’s Douglass Park on September 15th, 16th, and 17th. The 2023 edition of the festival featured top sets from daily headliners Foo Fighters, The Postal Service/Death Cab For Cutie, and The Cure, but what makes Riot Fest one of the top rock festivals in the U.S. is its well-curated and diverse undercard lineup.
Reunion fever always seems to catch in late September when Riot Fest returns to Chicago, and this year had no shortage of heavy homecomings. Queens of the Stone Age brought their first tour in five years to the Riot, with The Mars Volta swinging through the festival in a continuation of its 2022 reunion tour which snapped a ten-year hiatus.
The lineup also included a slew of old-school favorites ranging from funk mastermind George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic to Celtic punks Flogging Molly or harlequined hip-hoppers Insane Clown Posse. Riot Fest also boasted some wild card acts like actors-turned-musicians Corey Feldman and Eshu Tune, a.k.a. comedian Hannibal Burress. With other acts from across the musical spectrum like Mr. Bungle, Viagra Boys, Bowling For Soup, Turnstile, and many more, there was something for everyone at Riot Fest.
