Nicky da B, New Orleans’ most vibrant bounce artist, has unfortunately passed away earlier this week, at the age of 24. Nicky da B was a kinetic representation of the bounce music scene, perfecting the homegrown dance music where twerking originated. As of now, the cause of death remains unknown.
Nicky’s 2012 album, Please Don’t Forget da B, showcased his quirky sense of style, with songs like “Hot Potato Style,” “Go Loko,” and “I Be Strokin’ / F*ck Like You Dance.” Perhaps his most well-known appearance was in the video for “Express Yourself,” which was produced by Diplo.
Diplo posted the following series of tweets, in which he shares that he was working on a collaboration with Nicky.
He was not only an important figure for New Orleans.. Bounce music.. He was a good friend and gave me one of my defining songs .
