Robby Krieger, guitarist for The Doors, has announced a special 60th Anniversary Doors Celebration at L.A.’s Greek Theatre on Thursday, October 30th.
The show will kick off with an opening set from Tripform featuring Pablo Manzarek, son of late Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek. Then, Krieger and his band will perform The Doors’ iconic 1970 album Morrison Hotel, which includes classic tracks like “Roadhouse Blues”, “Waiting For The Sun”, and “Peace Frog”, along with all The Doors’ greatest hits. An unannounced lineup of guest vocalists is slated to front the band, honoring the indomitable spirit and enduring legacy of the legendary Jim Morrison.
The concert will mark the culmination of the Doors’ 60th anniversary festivities, which have included the release of several reissues, a new anthology book, and other archival material. Earlier this year, Krieger headlined five sold-out shows at the band’s old stomping ground, the Whisky A Go Go, where he reunited with The Doors drummer John Densmore. In a joint interview with Variety, Densmore intimated, “Dare I say, there’s more to come, maybe something with an all-star group down the line? There are irons in the fire is all.”
“Sixty years or so ago when The Doors were happening, I had no idea that in the next century, we would still be talking about and playing The Doors records,” Krieger said in a press release. “I feel so blessed that just about every day someone stops me and recognizes me and wants to talk about The Doors and to thank me for making the music that they love still today. The people that recognize me seem to be getting nicer all the time…I like to say that it’s a good problem to have.”
He went on to express excitement for his debut performance at the Greek, adding, “I love seeing people at the Greek even though I’ve never played there myself. I have seen many shows there and the sound is great, and it has a magical feel being out under the stars; like a more intimate Hollywood Bowl.”
