Grateful Dead fans are still feeling the loss of lyricist Robert Hunter, who passed away at the age of 78 on Monday. While listening to the vast collection of Grateful Dead live recordings along with their studio albums is a great way to keep Hunter’s brilliant creative spirit alive, fans shouldn’t be so quick to overlook his own performances throughout the years.

One of the highlight shows by the reclusive songwriter and musician in the latter years of his life was that of his 2014 performance at Newport Folk Festival. It was during his intimate, 11-song performance at the popular music event where Hunter treated fans to acoustic renditions of Grateful Dead tunes including “Dire Wolf”, “Bertha”, “Friend of the Devil”, “Brokedown Palace”, “Brown Eyed Women”, “Touch of Grey”, “Ripple”, and more.

The show’s audio isn’t crystal clear, but strong enough to really showcase Hunter’s wonderful abilities as a folk-rock musician whose lyrics stood just as strongly when he sang them as they did coming out of the mouth of Jerry Garcia.
