Last night, Robert Plant, best known as the lead singer and lyricist for the iconic rock act Led Zeppelin, appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, performing a new song, “New World…”, off his latest album Carry Fire, marking Plant’s eleventh solo studio album to date. During the emotive take on “New World…”, Plant who locked down the quieted vocals and played the tambourine, was supported by his solo backing band, the Sensational Space Shifters. While the tune was mostly reverent in tone, the song featured a climactic guitar solo highlighting the Sensational Space Shifters’ lead guitarist, Liam “Skin” Tyson.

During his stint on The Late Late Show, Robert Plant also appeared for an interview segment with host James Corden and Argentinian model and actress Camila Morrone. During the interview, after noting that he’s done karaoke two or three times in his life (“[karaoke] is a dastardly trick”), Plant shared a hilarious anecdote about a time he faced off against a Taiwanese Elvis impersonator in Beijing for a karaoke duel. Twenty-two years later, Plant joked that he was disappointed that he eventually lost the battle, exclaiming, “I was neck and neck with this guy, but all the time, the Chinese were going for the Taiwanese guy, and I was really, really good!” You can watch Robert Plant’s hilarious retelling of his haunting (and hilarious) musical failure below.
