The Rock and Roll Playhouse is helping families all over the country celebrate Father’s Day with 24 Grateful Dead tribute concerts for kids and parents this coming Saturday and Sunday, June 17th and 18th.
The extensive series of morning and early-afternoon concerts will bring The Rock and Roll Playhouse’s Music of the Grateful Dead for Kids programming to popular live music venues in Denver, Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Nashville, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Chicago, and many more. Proceeds from the various Father’s Day weekend Rock and Roll Playhouse events will benefit Rex Foundation, the non-profit organization created by the Grateful Dead family and friends in 1983 to support a variety of charitable causes aligned with the spirit of the iconic band.
Founded in 2014 at its flagship venue, Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl, by lauded impresario, publisher, and venue owner Peter Shapiro alongside childhood educator Amy Streim, The Rock and Roll Playhouse was conceived as a way for families to experience live music together at storied venues.
Since then, The Rock and Roll Playhouse has performed to hundreds of thousands of children and their families in 40+ venues across 30 cities, playing the songs of iconic artists like the Dead, Prince, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Phish, Aretha Franklin, Harry Styles, Dave Matthews Band, and more and inspiring the next generation of music fans through dancing, stories, and interactive activities. The program has raised funds for the Can’d Aid Foundation’s Tunes Programs, VH1 Save the Music Foundation, UNICEF, Keep the Music Alive, and other organizations and donated thousands of tickets to local school fundraisers and charity auctions across the country.
This Is Rock and Roll Playhouse
“Live music is the heartbeat of the human soul,” explained The Rock and Roll Playhouse senior director Stephen Grybowski in a statement. “It’s truly one of the few things on Earth that can unite any two people from any two walks of life, anywhere in the world. To be able to help parents share the music that they love with their children and the next generation is the best part of what I do.”
While they are catered toward children, the shows are designed to be exciting and enjoyable for parents and kids alike.
“Children are experiencing this music often for the first time in their lives, so the beauty of that is pretty unrivaled,” Grybowski added. “At the same time, it means so much to a parent to share the music that they grew up with and love so deeply with their children.”
