The Rolling Stones are gearing up to release a reissue of Their Satanic Majesties Request–due out September 22–to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 album. In promotion of such, they’ve shared a lyric video for “2000 Light Years From Home.” The video is directed by Lucy Dawkins and Tom Readdy and follows the universe through a psychedelic scope. The video’s animation and mixed media is reminiscent of the album’s cover.

Their Satanic Majesties Request is the Rolling Stones’ sixth British and eighth American studio album, and sees the band experimenting with psychedelic sounds, incorporating unconventional instruments, sound effects, string arrangements, and African rhythms. The album itself received mixed reviews, and was often compared to the Beatles‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for engaging in similar studio practices. The Rolling Stones left behind this new sound after Their Satanic Majesties Request, and returned to their roots of rock and blues. Even Keith Richards called the album “a load of crap,” in an interview from Keith Richards – In His Own Words, though perhaps the 50 year bench mark was enough a reason to bring the record back into the spotlight.

The reissue of Their Satanic Majesties Request is available for pre-order here, and includes stereo and mono versions of the album on vinyl and hybrid super audio CD, along with a 20-pagebook of new liner notes from Rob Bowman and photographs from the original album’s cover shoot.
