[Update]: Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival has announced the second round of artists set to perform at the festival from May 23rd–26th, 2024 at Pop’s Farm in Martinsville, VA. Included in the new crop of 16 acts are headliners Emmylou Harris and Cory Wong.

Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Harris will headline the festival on Saturday with internationally renowned guitarist and Vulfpeck collaborator Wong taking the top slot on Friday, marking both artists’ Rooster Walk debuts. Joining the headliners in this phase two lineup addition is a diverse offering of undercard acts including Boston soul-rock sensation Couch, progressive bluegrass outfit Arkansauce, Chicago party-funk sextet Sneezy, bluegrass duo Sticks N Thorns featuring Leftover Salmon‘s Andy Thorn and Asheville guitarist Jon Stickley, and more. The rest of the new acts are Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast, Travis Book & Friends, The Jared Stout Band, TC Carter Band, Lua Flora, Big Fat Gap, Jules & The Agreeables, DJ What, and Pirates of the Piedmont.

These new artists join the previously announced lineup topped by a reunion of bluegrass supergroup Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band (ft. members of Leftover Salmon, Greensky Bluegrass, Infamous Stringdusters, and more), Daniel Donato’s Cosmic CountryTAUK MooreDogs In A PileYarnMountain Grass Unit, and more. Organizers stated in this most recent announcement that the final batch of artist additions will arrive in February 2024.

[10/24/23]: Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival is already looking ahead to Memorial Day with an initial 2024 lineup announcement. Set to top the 14th annual festival when it returns to Martinsville, VA is a rare performance from bluegrass supergroup Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band along with two nights of Daniel Donato’s Cosmic CountryTAUK Moore, and more.

Slated for May 23rd–26th, 2024 at Pop’s Farm, Rooster Walk will also welcome rising jam band Dogs In A Pile and Americana outfit Yarn. The initial announcement includes other up-and-comers like budding bluegrass trio Mountain Grass Unit as well as Isaac Hadden Organ Trio. The rest of the initial lineup is filled out by Sol Driven Train, J & The Causeways, Colby T. Helms & The Virginia Creepers, Clay Street Unit, and Mighty Joshua. Organizers noted that 30 more bands will be announced in the coming months.

Leading the initial lineup is Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band, the long-dormant project featuring Anders Beck (dobro/Greensky Bluegrass), Travis Book (bass/Infamous Stringdusters), Robin Davis (mandolin/The Robin Davis Duo), Jon Stickley (guitar/Jon Stickley Trio), and Andy Thorn (banjo/Leftover Salmon). The group first formed in 2003 when all of the pre-fame bluegrass players were still in college. They toured in the summers of 2003 and 2004 between semesters before all going their separate ways and finding success with other bands. Rooster Walk will mark Broke Mountain Bluegrass Band’s first East Coast set in nearly 20 years and the band’s first-ever East Coast festival set.

The sneak peak of the 2024 lineup includes more familiar faces, including Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country who will perform at Rooster Walk for the third year in a row. Though this will mark the first appearance by the collaborative TAUK Moore project, vocalist Kanika Moore performed last year with Doom Flamingo and instrumental prog-jam quartet TAUK has made regular late-night appearances over the past decade.

By weekend’s end, Rooster Walk will have hosted 50 bands on six different stages across four days. In addition to the 80 sets of music, the family-friendly festival offers an array of other activities utilizing Virginia’s great outdoors with kayak river floats, pedal boats, bike rides, yoga, and a disc golf course.
