The Roots will deliver a “love letter to Philadelphia” with the 2022 return of Roots Picnic. The first in-person Roots Picnic since 2019 will take place at The Mann Center on June 4th and 5th.
Topping the 2022 Roots Picnic lineup is a special performance by Mary J. Blige with The Roots, who will share the stage for the first time. Also featured on the lineup are Summer Walker, Wizkid, Jazmine Sullivan, and Kamasi Washington.
The festival will also feature a number of special performances including a J Period Live Mixtape with Black Thought, Rick Ross, and Benny The Butcher as well as a Soulquarians Jam Session featuring Keyshia Cole, SWV, and Musiq Soulchild. Rounding out the musical lineup are Masego, Kirk Franklin, G Herbo, Tierra Whack, Freddie Gibbs, Mickey Guyton, Yebba, Chief Keef, Robert Glasper & Bilal, DJ Jazzy Jeff & Rakim, Babyface Ray, Muni Long, CKay, Protoje, Serpentwithfeet, and more.
“After a long two years, we are excited to announce the return of the Roots Picnic to Philly with two days of music and culture at the Mann at Fairmount Park,” Shawn Gee, President of Live Nation Urban, Roots manager, and Roots Picnic co-founder shared in a statement. “This year, Black Thought, Questlove and I attempted to curate a lineup that broke through the genre barriers that often separate us in black culture. To be able to book Mickey Guyton, Kirk Franklin, G Herbo, Wizkid, Wallo & Gillie, and Mary J. Blige on the same lineup was a dream come true.”
Roots Picnic 2022 will also host a live podcast stage curated by Wallo267 and Gillie Da King. The stage will see live recordings of Questlove Supreme, Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Rory & Mal, Earn Your Leisure, and more.
