The city of San Francisco paid tribute to one of its cultural icons today, as a plaque honoring Jerry Garcia was just placed outside his childhood home at Mission and Harrington. Garcia lived at the 87 Harrington address for many years as a child.

While news of the planned Garcia tribute was announced months ago, its placement is certainly a significant moment in honoring the legacy of the Grateful Dead. The plaque itself features a quote from Garcia about his influences, “My grandmother listened to country, my mother listened to opera, my father was a musician. I was in the middle of music.”
