When the beloved soul singer Sharon Jones passed away in November of 2016 at the age of 60, music fans around the world were crushed. Jones’ story was one of triumph, getting her first big break at the age of 40 and, years later, overcoming cancer and returning to the stage. Unfortunately, though that cancer returned late last year, Jones remained optimistic and still performed occasionally. When news broke that she had gone, it was difficult for everyone to grasp.

Daptone Records Releases Sharon Jones’ Final Music Video “Please Come Home For Christmas” [Watch]

Today, Daptone Records had a very special announcement for fans. At the time of Jones’ untimely passing, she was in the studio with the Dap-Kings at Daptone’s House Of Soul studio in Brooklyn, recording material for a new album. Now, the label has announced that they will be releasing this album, dubbed Soul Of A Woman, as “a true testament to the life and career of Daptone’s fearless leader and one of the world’s greatest performers.”

Soul Of A Woman is set to be released on November 17th. Originally recorded on an eight-track tape, Dap-Kings bassist Bosco Mann produced this latest work, with the band’s guitarist Joey Crispiano, percussionist Fernando Velez, and drummer Homer Steinweiss all earning songwriting credits on the album. Originally, the material off Soul Of A Woman was written with the idea that it could potentially be supported by a tour featuring a symphony. As such, Soul Of A Woman features a healthy mix of both slower ballads appropriate for string or symphonic accompaniment, as well as some more characteristically high-energy soul, blues, and funk tunes.

You can pre-order the album now in both digital and hard-copy formats, with Sharon Jones And The Dap-King’s final studio album, Soul Of A Woman, slated to be released on November 17th, 2017.
