Devon Allman and Duane Betts‘ traveling Allman Betts Family Revival has featured a rotating cast of special guests and unique collaborations, but the tour’s stop at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium had a few extra special surprises as Jason Isbell and Sierra Ferrell joined the extended Allman Betts Band for an all-hands-on-deck “Midnight Rider” encore.
Featured throughout Friday’s show were G. Love, vocalist and harmonica player Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie), multi-instrumentalist Jackie Greene, bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, North Mississippi Allstars‘ Luther Dickinson and Cody Dickinson, and guitarists Ally Venable, Ghalia Volt, and Larry McCray, plus special guests Frank Hannon (Tesla) and Peter Keys (Lynyrd Skynyrd, P-Funk). As if that wasn’t enough, Jason Isbell showed up to lend a hand on “Dreams” at the end of the first set and returned at the end of set two for “Whipping Post” and “Ramblin’ Man”, on which he sang lead.
Then, when the band came out for an encore, they were joined by Sierra Hull, who has been a regular guest on the tour, for “Magnolia Road” and “End of the Line”, and then by Sierra Ferrel for “Midnight Rider” to cap off the night.
