Actor John C. Reilly walked hard to The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday to join singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell for a pair of country classics. The favorite of indie films and studio comedies alike joined the hardscrabble West Virginian for songs by Hank Williams and Ray Price.

Ferrell is known for her elegantly antiquated stage outfits that somehow meld old-timey fashion with a Tim Burton dream sequence, and she met her match with Reilly quite literally as he took the stage—presumably after standing backstage thinking about his entire life—with a matching black and red mariachi jacket topped off with an oversized sombrero. Amid cries of “Mike Honcho” and other references to Reilly’s classic 2007 music biopic spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, John and Sierra dueted on Hank Williams’ “I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still In Love With You)”. The actor showed that his portrayal of the titular Dewey Cox wasn’t Hollywood make-believe, as the oaky timber of his voice created an idyllic foil to Ferrell’s mountain holler. Reilley previously joined Ferrell on “I Can’t Help It” last fall at the Los Angeles Folk Festival (they matched then, too).

Between songs, Reilly beckoned the crowd, “The next time you see a busker, be polite!” referencing Ferrell’s years spent performing on the street. Sticking around, Reilly affirmed he did, indeed, want part of this s–t as he and Ferrell shared the single mic yet again on Ray Price’s 1956 career-making hit “Crazy Arms”, which has been covered by everyone from Jerry Lee Lewis to Bing Crosby to Waylon Jennings and now Sierra Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

Reilly was not the only special guest to appear at Ferrell’s show, as a man in a cow suit danced onstage during her encore cover of Kris Kristofferson‘s “Me And Bobby McGee”, and lent some great cowbell work. Ferrell seems to be making the most of her time in Tinseltown, rubbing shoulders with celebrities like Reilly and Post Malone the day prior, as seen on her Instagram story.

Watch Sierra Ferrell and John C. Reilly sing some country classics in L.A. Ferrell will return to the Fonda Theatre tonight, April 4th, for a sold-out show with Sierra Hull following Ferrell’s free in-store performance at Amoeba Music in Hollywood this afternoon.
