Sinkane, the creative alias of singer/songwriter/guitarist Ahmed Gallab, has announced the upcoming release of his seventh studio album, to be titled Dépaysé. The forthcoming album follows 2017’s Life & Livin’ It, and is scheduled to arrive on May 31st via City Slang Records.
As Stereogum reports, the album’s exotic title is French for, “to be removed from one’s habitual surroundings,” and could be considered a tribute to the people struggling around the world to whom Sinkane often attempts to bring awareness via his Twitter account.
The announcement of the new album on Wednesday morning also came with the arrival of its lead single, “Everybody”, and its accompanying music video. The music video for the lively new single takes viewers into the vibrant communities of Rio de Janeiro, where it was filmed. Sinkane and his band waste no time in turning up the energy level from the song’s opening moments, and listeners can also hear Gallab’s love for afro-beat and global musical influences throughout the track.

The lyrics to “Everybody” are just as uplifting and invigorating as the video itself, as Gallab can be hearing singing out, “Now I’m feeling stronger, and I know I can fight for you/Stand up if you wanna, together we can start a new.” Gallab even shared a few thoughts about what the song means to him via his Twitter on Wednesday, stating, “This song is an anthem of inclusion! In these trying times I am proud that all of us in Sinkane are positive representatives of the world!”
