Today, SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead channel has announced that they will be streaming all three of the Chicago “Fare Thee Well” 50th anniversary reunion shows over July 4th weekend. Those who don’t plan to attend or watch in any of the various formats now have the option to listen in, as the shows will be streaming with only a 15 minute delay.
The reunion shows will feature all four surviving members of the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart, alongside Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, pianist Bruce Hornsby, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The lineup will play two shows in Santa Clara, CA, before coming to Soldier Field in Chicago for three nights – July 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Since tickets are sold out, various alternative options to watch the shows have been announced. Those include pay-per-view webcasts, movie theater simulcasts, and even certain venues will be hosting live simulcast events as well.
The SiriusXM broadcasts will also feature special guests, including archivist David Lemieux, and will be introduced by Tales of the Golden Road hosts David Gans and Gary Lambert.
SiriusXM’s president and chief content officer, Scott Greenstein, said “[Promoter]Peter Shapiro and I started talking about broadcasting the Fare Thee Well concerts right after they were announced… Because of our long-time, ongoing relationship with the band, we’re able to broadcast these special and coveted concerts for our subscribers.”
While tickets have been sold out for months, a re-release is coming tomorrow, so get ready to get tickets!
