Snarky Puppy have announced the release of a new album, Sylva, which will drop on May 26th via Impulse!/Universal Music Classics. Not only will Sylva be the band’s first release on a major label, but it will also be their first to feature the Metropole Orkest from Holland, who joined Snarky Puppy for a live recording of the album.
Founded in 1945, the 52-piece Metropole Orkest has worked with artists like Elvis Costello, John Scofield, Tori Amos and Steve Vai in the past.
Sylva was recorded in front of a live audience of 300 people, each of whom listened to the musicians through state-of-the-art headphones. For two nights, Snarky Puppy and the Metropole Orkest performed in a lusciously decorated room, with forest landscape sculptures throughout.
You can get a taste of the album with the recently-released video of “The Curtain,” below. As a bonus, anyone who orders the album Sylva will receive a making-of DVD packaged with it!
Until then, you can catch members of Snarky Puppy at the upcoming FUNK N’ BOWL concert at the Brooklyn Bowl on April 14th, along with Marco Benevento and members of Lettuce. Head here for more information.
