Chicago party-funk outfit Sneezy has accompanied its recent rise to prominence with a fitting new single, “We Movin’ Up”. The track is set to appear on a forthcoming EP Feed the Funk and follows a pair of lauded performances and numerous sit-ins aboard Jam Cruise 21.
For the newly initiated to the Sneezy “Boogie Nation“, the new single “We Movin’ Up” is as good an introduction as any. Thundering in with an instrumental intro reminiscent of Lettuce banger “Madison Square”, “We Movin’ Up” stakes its claim with effervescent positivity describing Sneezy’s grind mentality and commitment to keep it lit and never quit. All the pieces of the Sneezy puzzle effortlessly fall into place, with swaggering hip-hop vocals from frontman Brett O’Connor given extra backing power from Destiny Pivonka‘s roaring saxophone and potent slap-bass funk by Thomas Hannum. Newly installed keyboardist Danny Bauer makes himself right at home and locks into a groove with vibe master Jack Holland and the Austins – Lutter (lead guitar) and Koziol (drums).
“We wrote this song to channel the excitement and joy that music brings to our lives, and to celebrate the unwavering confidence we have in each other,” O’Connor said. “As a group, we’ve faced countless challenges, but we’ve stayed hyper positive and deeply committed—both to our music and to one another—when so many might have chosen to walk away.”
The title “We Movin’ Up” is the perfect tagline for this pivotal point in Sneezy’s career. Prior to the band’s debut on Jam Cruise, Sneezy closed out 2024 supporting Big Something on New Year’s Eve in North Carolina, following another year of festival appearances including a memorable slot at Resonate Suwannee. The band will keep that momentum going into 2025, with a new EP recorded at Asheville’s famed Echo Mountain Studios coming later this year. Sneezy will deliver the new tunes to fans across the country, including a four-show run supporting Pigeons Playing Ping Pong in April followed by another summer of festival sets at Rooster Walk, Mountain Music Festival, and Northlands Music and Arts Festival.
