The Soul Rebels brass band has become known for their love and appreciation for hip hop. They often invite hip hop legends, such as Rakim and Talib Kweli, to perform with them, and they even have a project called “De La Soul Rebels” where they pay tribute to the iconic rap trio. Their annual multi-night run at Brooklyn Bowl has been a breeding ground for this love for hip hop, as they’ve continuously performed with iconic rappers at the beloved venue.

On Thursday night, the Soul Rebels invited Rakim and Melle Mel to join them on stage, and last night’s performance one-upped that lineup with a ridiculous roster of New York-centric special guests. Jarobi White of A Tribe Called QuestConsequence (also a part of the extended ATCQ family), Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan, and cult heroes Mobb Deep all hit the stage with. It was an unforgettable night of New York hip hop, with Tribe and Mobb Deep hailing from Queens, and Wu-Tang a by-product of Staten Island. Of course, the Soul Rebels added their funky New Orleans flavor throughout the proceedings.

Thankfully, photographer Andrew Scott Blackstein was on hand to capture all of these hip hop legends in one place at one time. See below for a gallery of his photos from the show.
