Space Bacon, the Big Apple-based jamtronica outfit, is preparing to add the most significant entry yet in its years-long history at Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Bowl: On Saturday, September 20th, the group’s headlining debut at the beloved venue/bowling alley will serve as the largest show in the band’s 12-year history [get tickets].

Space Bacon’s story has always been set in the “City That Never Sleeps,” dating back to the group’s earliest days in 2013 at Fordham University in the Bronx. Since relocating to Brooklyn, Space Bacon has performed regularly around the city and racked up a devoted local following in the process.

The group—whose current lineup features co-founders Sam Crespo (drums), Chris Gironda (keyboards), and Kevin LeGall (bass) alongside recently added guitarist Fred Rylands—has notched numerous past appearances at Brooklyn Bowl as a supporting act for [Br]eaking [Bi]scuits, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Spafford, Papadosio, and Perpetual Groove. Plus, as members of the local live music community, Space Bacon’s history at the venue extends far beyond their own shows: All of the band’s members have frequented Brooklyn Bowl as fans for more than a decade, and drummer Sam Crespo even worked at the venue for a time as its Lead Bowling Technician.

“I think there is no other venue that means more to the band than Brooklyn Bowl,” bassist Kevin LeGall told Live For Live Music. “I remember playing for the first time in 2017 with [Br]eaking [Bi]scuits and thinking, wow, this group really has the potential to go places. We used to see bands we looked up to perform at the venue for years; it was impossible not to see a familiar face in the crowd, even to this day. This show on September 20th represents years of effort and commitment, not only from the members of the group, but also from our fans who have come a long way with us.”

The event will also showcase other popular local acts including the Grateful Dead-influenced Brooklyn supergroup Top Cats and Long Island groove-rock group Dysfunktone. Together, the three bands will aim to embody the greater New York City jam scene and touch on the many unique yet connected facets of the eclectic genre.

Be sure to get there early to catch all the acts. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. ET, with music due to begin at 8:00 p.m. ET. Tickets for Space Bacon at Brooklyn Bowl with Top Cats and Dysfunktone are still available online here.
