According to the Daily News, via Mojo Magazine, rocker Rod Stewart admitted to steroid use over the years to help heal his voice so he could continue to perform at a high level. Apparently, that sacrifice came with some costs….mainly his pocket rocket becoming a mere sparkler.

“I let myself down on tours in the late 80s when I was addicted to steroids. In those days we didn’t have in-ear monitors and the band kept getting louder and drunker, and I kept blowing my voice out,” Stewart told Mojo Magazine.

“The steroids will take down the swelling in any membrane — including your k–b– — and it’s what you do when you’re in a bit of a pinch and need to do a show and you can’t sing,” Stewart went on to explain.

Stewart described tales of how the steroids began to make him bleed internally and hallucinate. One time, while performing, he tells of how “I thought I was in the kitchen with my mum.” While initially finding the story amusing, these are truly some serious consequences for simply trying to bring down the swelling of your vocal chords to perform on a nightly basis.

But, in the end, Stewart has managed to still have eight children (ranging from 2 to 50 years old), and is currently married to model Penny Lancaster (42 years old). The rock legend and former Faces frontman is still doing what he does best, as he just released his new album, Time, which is his first original material in nearly twenty years.
