Steve Poltz has announced his 14th solo album, Stardust & Satellites, due out on Friday, February 18th, via Red House Records. Along with this news, Poltz has also released the forthcoming album’s lead single, “Conveyor Belt”.
With production by Oliver Wood and Jano Rix of The Wood Brothers, his first album in over two years channels the feelings manifested during an enforced break from the road due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Back in 2020 as Poltz was stuck in Nashville, he joined the Wood Brothers for some socially distant hangs, and, on a whim, decided to record one song. The group tracked “Frenemy” and immediately knew they had something special. Poltz, Wood, and Rix decided to embark on this full-album collab free of studio clocks, schedules, and deadlines. Altogether Stardust & Satellites offers ten tracks of exuberance and thoughtfulness that celebrate life in all of its stages.
“Conveyor Belt”, the album’s lead single, now arrives as a disarmingly moving track that shows fans a different side of Poltz, using a voice and a solemnity that touches a universal nerve.
“My mom passed away, and then a year later my dad crossed over,” said Poltz in a press release. “I started thinking that I was next on the conveyor belt in a factory on the wheel of time. Next thing I know I grabbed my guitar and this song appeared to me like a gift. It didn’t exist and then voila, there it was. It’s all a mystery to me. I’m lucky to be a conduit.”
