Pennsylvania rock band Dr. Dog are releasing their 9th studio album next week through ANTI-Records entitled The Psychedelic Swamp. Interestingly, it’s the oldest material the band’s ever come up with, and originates as their 2001 un-released debut record. The music was born before the name Dr. Dog even came into existence for writers/band-mates Scott McMicken and Toby Leaman.

The album is a narrative, but each song stands alone in its psychedelic atmosphere. For instance, the song “Dead Record Player” emerges with a character who seems to be aimlessly moving in some direction, perhaps on hallucinogenics, backed by a glam-rocking, feel good anthem, with the recurring statement: “when I listen to my records, no matter what they are, they sound real good but real weird.”

It’s interesting to listen to The Psychedelic Swamp and connect it to the birthplace of Dr. Dog. The brainchild has quite the personality. Stream the album in full, which officially comes out February 5. Full album review to come.
