An STS9 concert in Asheville, NC was cut short last night, as six attendees were rushed to the hospital for medical emergencies. According to a report by FOX Carolina, two of those individuals remain in critical condition.
The show’s promoter agreed to end the concert as medical emergencies were mounting, and police rushed in to evacuate attendees and search for drugs. The crowd must have been angered, however, as those officers were pelted with bottles and items.
Statements from Watch Commander Gary Gudac suggested that drugs were involved, and that several audience members were also arrested for disruptive behavior.
Comments from the Asheville Reddit suggest that bad ketamine was the culprit, but those are certainly just speculative reports. Read:
I tend bar near the Civic Center in downtown Asheville. Apparently, some type of designer drug was sold throughout the crowd under the guise of ketamine. Many people were hospitalized, including an acquaintance of mine. I saw a guy come into where I work with his friends after the show. He could barely walk. His friends were holding him up and trying to make him drink water. He was in bad shape. The show had to be cut short for good reason…lives were at stake.
