Nicholas Braun, who plays Cousin Greg (or Gregory, as his character prefers) on HBO‘s hit series Succession, like the rest of us found himself with an abundance of free time when all of the creative industries shut down back in March. It was during his time in quarantine when Braun was inspired to write the basis for what would become his debut single, “Antibodies (Do You Have The)”.
His idea for the song shared on social media earlier this year was apparently good enough to catch the attention of the A&R team at Atlantic Records. On Wednesday, “Antibodies” was officially released by the label and is now available to stream on major digital platforms.
As the actor explains,
I was in quarantine, I was in Los Angeles, I was staying at a friend’s house. They were doing a full lockdown deal and they were like, “You should be really careful about going out and talking to people.” And I said, “I might go on a date,” and they were like … “Don’t do that. Don’t do that. Don’t be near a person.” So I was in this two-week quarantine away from even my friends in this house, and I think my brain just started turning like, what would make this OK? Or what would allow me to go on a social distance walk with somebody? And maybe it’s the antibodies. And, obviously, just felt like a punk song because it’s the word antibodies … I knew it had to be in the Blink-182, Papa Roach, P.O.D. realm.
The video shared with the song’s arrival this week begins with footage submitted by fans attempting to play the new song before the Braun makes his own entrance.
“Thanks to everyone who sent me their videos these last couple months,” Braun added to go with the video. “YOU inspired this awesome, creative project. I got to connect with so many talented singers, producers, guitarists, pianists, and artists of all sorts – just making stuff in their bedrooms and basements. I hope this track and this video brings you as much joy as it did for me to make it.”
