Tedeschi Trucks Band and Los Lobos returned to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA for the second of two shows on Saturday as part of the Wheels Of Soul Tour. During the show, Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo wielded Jerry Garcia‘s famous Alligator Strat, which he used throughout the set before handing it off to Susan Tedeschi.
Alligator was played by Jerry Garcia between May 1971 and the end of 1973. He used the instrument during the Dead’s famous Europe ’72 tour. The guitar was purchased in 2019 by Deadhead Andy Logan, who has since lent it out to be played by Zach Nugent, Stu Allen, and Jeff Mattson. David Hidalgo joined that list on Saturday, using the the famous Fender for a set that included covers of the Dead’s “West L.A. Fadeaway”, “Not Fade Away”, and “Bertha”.

TTB’s set showcased new tracks from the band’s recent I Am The Moon album/film series, including “Yes We Will”, “Hear My Dear”, and the band’s tribute to late multi-instrumentalist Kofi Burbridge, “Soul Sweet Song”, which is set to appear on the fourth and finally I Am The Moon: Episode IV. Farewell later this month. The set also included “Part Of Me” and “Do I Look Worried” from 2013’s Made Up Mind and a cover of Dr. John‘s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters”.

The band then welcomed members of Los Lobos including David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas for War‘s “The World Is A Ghetto” and Charlie Segar‘s “Key To The Highway”. Tedeschi played Jerry’s Alligator guitar throughout the sit-in. TTB then wrapped up the set with “Circles ‘Round The Sun” and “Pasaquan” from I Am The Moon: I. Crescent before capping the night off with a two-song encore featuring Blind Joe Reynolds’ “Outside Woman Blues” and The Coasters‘ 1965 hit “Let’s Go Get Stoned”.
