On Wednesday night, October 9th, Susan Tedeschi (Tedeschi Trucks Band) delivered the customary pre-game rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” ahead of Game 5 of the National League Division Series playoff matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves at Atlanta’s SunTrust Park.

Tedeschi’s rendition of the National Anthem was soulful and filled with emotion, though refreshingly light on the frills frequently added to such high-profile pre-game renditions. She did, however, remember to fit in the customary local lyric change: “O’er the land of the free and the home of the Braves.” Unfortunately for the Braves, Tedeschi’s performance was the high point of the night. They were beaten handily by a score of 13-1 to eliminate them from World Series contention.

Susan Tedeschi’s National Anthem performance in Atlanta came on the heels of another successful Tedeschi Trucks Band residency at New York City’s storied Beacon Theatre. Over the course of the six-show run, the band played 113 total songs (86 of them unique) and welcomed 12 musical guests and over 16,000 attendees. During this year’s run, the band also passed the mark of 100,000 total tickets sold over the years at the Beacon. In honor of the ticket sales milestone, the band was presented with a commemorative plaque from the venerable theater.

“The Beacon is home for us. I guess 2000 was the first year I was here with The Allman Brothers,” Tedeschi’s husband and co-bandleader Derek Trucks explains in a video shared by the Beacon. “Our son was here when he was nine days old. It feels comfortable, and it’s one of the places we always look forward to coming back to.”

“We love the audience,” Tedeschi also states in the 90-second clip. “When we come back they’re always great, they always make us feel really welcome and somehow they come all the different nights so we try to make it special for them.” Watch the video of Derek and Susan accepting the plaque below:
