While Phish fans and music lovers from the tri-state area conquered the Big Apple this weekend, Philadelphia rang in 2016 right with a night of funk that was straight-up fire! Philly’s own premiere funk band, Swift Technique, rolled into their home-court at the Ardmore Music Hall this past Saturday night, dropping an atomic funk bomb with Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe!

The Philly Funksters are fresh off a highly successful 2015 which included such highlights as supporting The Motet during their two-night Sold Out Brooklyn Bowl run, and National/Regional festival slots at both Camp Jam & Beardfest playing with L4LM favorites The Main Squeeze, Pimps of Joytime, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, and many more.

ST took the stage Saturday night, and right from the opening note, these guys were feeling it. Their contagious energy & musical prowess is undeniable, and you cannot help but smile & dance when you watch these guys play. Highlights of the set included a powerful version of “Livin’ in the Kitchen” featuring singer/hype man, Nik Greeley (also of Nik Greeley & The Operators), followed by a face melting “Lonewolf” that included a “Welcome to the Jungle” teaser to get everybody rockin’.

Founding members Andy Bree, Greg Rosen & Jake Leschinsky had the opportunity to reconnect with original drummer and LA transplant, Rich Agren, which led to fiery percussive collaborations with Johnny Perry. The band would later be joined by special guest, Marjani, singer of the Philly band, Johnny Popcorn, where her & Greeley sang together on a deliciously funky “DMSR/Shake Your Body” Prince/Michael Jackson medley, capping off a truly explosive first performance of 2016.

Swift Tech’s new year is already shaping up nicely, and you can catch them in NYC as they bring back by popular demand their “Prince vs. Morris Day” tribute show as they join the nationally acclaimed Michael Jackson tribute act, Who’s Bad, on Saturday, February 20th at the Brooklyn Bowl. In the meantime, check out these new live videos from this past Saturday night at The Ardmore Music Hall.
