Kevin Parker has worked on a lot of music since Tame Impala put out its glossy psych-pop masterpiece Currents in 2015, but none of it has been under the Tame Impala moniker. All that changed today when electronic music producer ZHU dropped his new collaboration with Parker, an ethereal-yet-pulsating number called “My Life”.
The new track marks the first new Tame Impala material since Currents ushered the Australian psych-rock project into the mainstream. While Parker generally writes and records all of the band’s music by himself, Tame Impala has also established itself as a juggernaut in the live area, where Parker’s crafty guitar work and John Lennon-esque vocals are supplemented by a touring lineup that includes Dominic Simper (guitar, synth), Cam Avery (bass, vocals), Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals), and Pond‘s Jay Watson (synths, vocals, guitar).
The release of “My Life” is sure to fuel renewed speculation about the band’s plans for the near future, which already includes a few tour stops at festivals around the world. Considering they took a much-needed break from the road in 2017, the group’s fans are itching to see them back on the stage. However, as of now, only one of those newly-announced tour dates will bring Parker and Co. to the United States.
