Denver-based guitarist Taylor Scott and his band have released a new genre-blending EP, Sorry Kids.

Scott has been building quite a buzz in the Colorado scene and recently collaborated with Lettuce trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom on the debut EP from Benny & Taylor’s Honky Tonk Express, which showcased his country picking chops. Now he is back with a new release under his own name featuring his band comprised of Jon Wirtz (keys), Jiho Han (bass), Deven Jenkins (drums), Will Trask (percussion), and Curly Joel Lotito (background vocals). With five tracks fusing roots-rock, funk, soul, and troubadour-style Americana, the EP highlights Scott’s multifaceted competency as an instrumentalist, lyricist, and producer. It is the first release he has self-produced since working with Los Lobos saxophonist and producer extraordinaire Steve Berlin on his last couple albums.

“This was our first time in years self-producing our own music in the studio. Our last couple albums were produced by our good friend, Grammy-winner Steve Berlin (Los Lobos). I personally grew and learned so much from Steve through those experiences that’s translated into our music in so many ways. This time was a little different; it was just the band members in the room and it turned out more exemplary of how we play and vibe in a relaxed, live setting. The aim was to bring that feeling and sound into the studio,” Taylor said.

“I’m so grateful to have such a rock-solid band of killers who also happen to be close friends with me on this journey,” he continued. “It feels like folks are starting to pay attention to what we’re doing more and more lately and I feel that’s large in part due to the people I’ve been lucky to find myself surrounded by. I’m so appreciative of that love, support and curiosity coming from the scene. We’re very inspired and excited to explore our sound as a band and this is a snapshot that we’re very proud of.”

Praising Scott’s abilities as a songwriter, Stever Berlin called him “one of the most talented singer/songwriter/guitar monsters I’ve had the pleasure of working with” and went on to say, “His ability to distill complex human feelings into concise 4-minute epics is truly extraordinary, and then to rip a face-melting solo on top of it all? Just remarkable to say the least.”
