Almost a month after concluding their Wheels of Soul run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Tedeschi Trucks Band regrouped last night in Syracuse, New York for a performance at the Chevrolet Court for the New York State Fair. The husband-and-wife duo led their 12-piece ensemble through a 15-song set, welcoming moe. guitarist Al Schnier for a collaboration on Derek and the Dominos‘ “Tell the Truth”.

Mixing together their own blues-tinged originals with an exceptional mix of classic covers, Tedeschi Trucks Band was in full-force last night. Keeping it close to home with covers of Derek Trucks Band‘s “Get What You Deserve”, and reaching into familiar pockets for covers of The Band‘s “Down In The Flood” (perfomed by TTB for the third time ever since their debut earlier this year), Johnny Moore’s Three Blazers‘ “How Blue Can You Get?”, and Joe Cocker‘s “Space Captain”, Tedeschi Trucks Band frequently uses the inspiration of these covers to expand upon their own authenticity. Without knowing the origins of these songs beforehand, one is safe to assume they belong to TTB when they play them.

During their cover of Derek and the Dominos’ “Tell The Truth”, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi welcomed out moe. guitarist Al Schnier for a nearly 10-minute collaboration, marking one of the night’s greatest highlights. Toward the end of the show, the band really let loose and turned in 13+ minute versions of their own “I Want More” and “Midnight In Harlem”.
