Tedeschi Trucks Band made their great return to Florida over the weekend for their annual Sunshine Music Festival. Hitting St. Pete and Boca Raton on Saturday and Sunday, host band TTB brought along a number of incredible musicians, including Mike Gordon, Medeski Martin & Wood, Galactic, Hot Tuna, Foundation of Funk (with Zigaboo Modeliste, George Porter Jr., Eric Krasno, & John Medeski), and The Suffers.

After getting warmed up in St. Pete, the band of gypsies fled south for a weekend-closing celebration of music and sunshine at the Mizner Park Amphitheatre in Boca Raton. For their headlining set, the husband-and-wife duo had a few surprises up their sleeves. Tedeschi Trucks Band opened the show with the debut of a new cover, “Love Having You Around” by Stevie Wonder. From there, they went straight into their newest original song “Shame”, which was debuted in the summer of 2017 and will assumably appear on the band’s next album. “Don’t Know What It Means” from their last studio effort, Let Me Get By, came next, followed by another reliable, “Midnight in Harlem.”

The first cover of the evening came next with “Leaving Trunk” by Taj Mahal, welcoming out guitarist Eric Krasno to the stage. The Lettuce/Soulive guitarist stuck around for “Save Me”, which had not been played by TTB since its debut in 2008. The flavorful set continued with original “Bound for Glory”, followed by the band’s second-ever performance of Susan Tedeschi‘s original “Talking About” from her 2008 Back to the River, which was debuted by TTB the day before in St. Pete. John Prine‘s “Angel From Montgomery” came next, followed by the Grateful Dead‘s “Sugaree”, then the title track of 2013’s “Made Up My Mind”. A cover of Wing‘s “Let Me Roll It” welcomed out bassist Chris Wood, who performed earlier in the day with Medeski, Martin, & Wood. The set closed with a jammed out version of “The Storm” which segued into a wailing “Whipping Post” by the Allman Brothers Band. After a brief break, Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the stage for “Let’s Go Get Stoned”.
