Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off a mid-week two-night run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on Tuesday.

Opening with a Derek Trucks guitar solo that set the tone for the night, the band dove headfirst into “High and Mighty”, with Susan Tedeschi stepping up to the mic after a scorching intro. Derek’s closing solo was punctuated by powerful horns as the band rolled on through a wide array of classic covers and TTB originals.

The Muddy Waters cover “Got My Mojo Workin’” had Susan and Derek sharing the spotlight, with Trucks digging deep into his slide work. Tedeschi’s vocals soared as she belted the final verse, leading into a hard-hitting finish. Without missing a beat, the band immediately launched into “Do I Look Worried”, where Derek flicked off his slide for a deeper exploration of the fretboard. Tedeschi concluded the song with a heartfelt, “Thank you so much!” Expressing sincere gratitude to the audience.

As the set continued, the energy climbed higher. “Let Me Get By” was a standout, with Gabe Dixon’s organ work leading into another soul-stirring Trucks solo. Chuck Willis’ “I Feel So Bad” saw Mike Mattison step forward, delivering a beautifully raw vocal performance, while Tedeschi’s towering solo added layers of intensity. The evening’s covers, including Van Morrison’s “Caravan” and Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice”, were flawlessly interwoven with TTB’s signature sound. Derek and Susan traded solos effortlessly during “I Want More”, and the horns closed out the set with a powerful punch, wrapping up the first half with a wave of soulful energy.

After a brief set break, the band returned, with Susan wielding her Gibson Les Paul for a fiery rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Mr. Charlie”. Tedeschi’s vocals carried the tune, while Trucks and the horns elevated the classic blues jam. A switch to her teal SG brought the vibe back to modern TTB, as the band leaned into “La Di Da”, followed by Gabe Dixon taking center stage on vocals for “Ain’t That Something”, where he and Susan traded call-and-response lines in a back-and-forth display of musicianship.

The second set highlights kept coming, with a thunderous cover of Prince’s “D.M.S.R.”—recently debuted by TTB in Brooklyn—bringing the show into party mode, as Mattison moved to the front and Derek’s slide guitar took the lead in the funky number. Tedeschi, guitar-free, worked the stage like a true rockstar, clapping and egging the crowd on as Derek ripped into a quick-handed solo during “Shame”, even throwing in a cheeky air guitar riff before ceding the stage to Trucks for a psychedelic jam. The guitar virtuoso slid into the trippy instrumental breakdown while Brandon Boone’s bass rumbled below.

As the night neared its end, the band took the crowd on a journey through the Louisiana swamps with Dr. John’s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters”. Derek’s slide work was a masterclass, guiding the audience through the haunting blues-soaked landscape. After a brief moment offstage, Trucks returned, slide in hand, for a soulful rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”, with Susan leading the way with her heartfelt vocals.

With the band firing on all cylinders, “Soul Sweet Song” brought Kebbi Williams to the fore, his flute floating above the rest of the ensemble while Trucks jammed out an inspired intro to “Keep On Growing”. By the time “Bound for Glory” hit, Trucks was in full command, trading conversational solos with the horn section as the band locked into a groove.

For the encore, Mark Rivers stepped up to lead vocals on Joe Tex’s “Show Me”, with Susan and Derek exchanging one last flurry of solos. As the horns lined up for a final back-and-forth with Trucks, he stood in front of them, egging them on as the night came to a close. Susan delivered the last verse, and the horns provided an outro that left the audience wanting more. Luckily for them, the band returns to The Cap tonight for a second round.
