After announcing its sixth studio album, Future Soul, last month, Tedeschi Trucks Band has returned with the introspective sophomore single, “Who Am I”. The first album from the Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks-led 12-piece since 2022 arrives March 20th via Fantasy Records.
Though Derek Trucks is frequently hailed as one of the greatest guitarists of our time, he keeps his playing simple in the gentle “Who Am I”. A rolling main riff forms the song’s foundation, as Susan Tedeschi comes wafting in with the line “You had me at hello / Poetry and wine flow.” There’s a touch of the band’s hit “Midnight in Harlem” in the song’s subdued, reflective passion.
“‘Who Am I’ feels a little bit like a dream to me,” Trucks shared in a statement. “The riff came naturally to me one of the mornings that we were all writing together up at our farm in Georgia. Susan immediately came up with the opening vocal melody and lyric and Gabe [Dixon, keyboardist] really took it to a beautiful place from there. It feels biographical and a bit surreal at the same time. I always love when a song can put you in between worlds.”
Tedeschi Trucks Band introduced fans to “Who Am I” last year, playing it live 25 times from May through October 2025, per Setlist.fm. Future Soul will feature several other recent additions to the band’s live catalog, including “Crazy Cryin'”, “I Got You”, and the title track. The 11-song album was produced by Mike Elizondo (Carrie Underwood, Eminem, Dr. Dre) and co-produced by Trucks, and will arrive midway through the band’s mostly sold-out ten-show residency at New York’s Beacon Theatre, March 10th–28th.
After kicking off with the band’s coveted Beacon Theatre stay, Tedeschi Trucks Band will take Future Soul on the road with a nationwide, 35-date tour. The headlining trek will launch in earnest on April 14th in Dallas, and feature stops at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (5/3), Bonnaroo (6/14), Red Rocks Amphitheatre (7/31–8/1), The Hollywood Bowl with The Black Crowes (8/17), Florida’s St. Augustine Amphitheatre (10/9–10/10), and many more before closing with a four-night run at The Chicago Theatre (10/23–10/24, 10/26–10/27). TTB will welcome rotating support throughout the tour, including Alabama Shakes, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Sheryl Crow, Lukas Nelson, Molly Tuttle, and JJ Grey & Mofro.
