Tedeschi Trucks Band fired up the tour buses for its summer outing last week, kicking off the run with a hometown show in Jacksonville, Florida and two nights in Atlanta before landing in Vienna, Virginia for a two-night stand at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap on Tuesday and Wednesday.
TTB opened night one at the Wolf Trap with a cover of Joe Cocker‘s “Woman to Woman”, one of several songs that the band debuted last week at the tour opener in Jacksonville, played again in Atlanta, and revisited at Wolf Trap. The energy remained high as the 12-piece ensemble mixed original tunes like “Anyhow”, “Soul Sweet Song”, and “Pasaquan” with covers including “Keep On Growing” by Derek and the Dominoes, “I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel To Be Free” by Billy Taylor, and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” by Bob Dylan.
After finishing the set with a crowd-pleasing “Made Up Mind”, the band returned for a two-song encore comprised of “Keep On Smilin'” by Wet Willie, another song debuted in Jacksonville, and “Show Me” by Joe Tex.
Wednesday likewise featured a setlist furnished with choice covers beginning with the first “Statesboro Blues” since the summer of 2021. The Blind Willie McTell song famously covered by the Allman Brothers Band gave way to a sequence of original songs, including the title track and other selections from the band’s recent four-album audio-visual masterpiece, I Am The Moon.
One high point of the concert came during the transition from “I Want More” into “Beck’s Bolero”, which included a double drum feature from drummers Isaac Eady and Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell. The latter song was another played for the third time since its debut in Jacksonville alongside “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)” by the Rolling Stones and “Got My Mojo Working” by Muddy Waters, which kicked off a two-song encore that finished with “Show Me” by Joe Tex.
