Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off its annual residency at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre on Tuesday night. The four-night run marks the ensemble’s final performances of the year.
2022 was a landmark year for TTB due in part to the release of the band’s monumental four-part audio-visual epic I Am The Moon. In recognition of their historic achievement, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi led the band through all of I Am The Moon: I. Crescent, the first of four albums included in the series. After playing the five tracks from the album, the band concluded its first set with Tedeschi’s “Just Won’t Burn” and fan favorite “Made Up Mind”.
For set two, the band drew “Soul Sweet Song” from I Am The Moon: IV. Farewell. Rather than sticking to the album’s tracklist, however, TTB shifted gears, selecting “Do I Look Worried” (another from 2013’s Made Up Mind) and then a few covers including Dr. John’s “I Walk on Guided Splinters”, and Derek and the Dominos‘ “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad”. To round out the set, the band played the title track from 2016’s Let Me Get By, followed by two songs from I Am The Moon: III. The Fall, “Gravity” and “Yes We Will”. TTB closed the set with Billy Taylor’s “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free”.
For the encore, the band selected “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Mike Reid and Derek Trucks Band favorite “Get What You Deserve”.
