On Saturday night, Tedeschi Trucks Band wrapped up their 6-night 2018 residency at New York’s storied Beacon Theatre. For the final show of their yearly Big Apple run, Derek TrucksSusan Tedeschi, and company pulled out all the stops, delivering a memorable performance featuring an extended sit-in from another world-class guitarist quite familiar with the magic of The Beacon: Warren Haynes.

Trucks and Haynes have spent countless nights together on this stage, from their many Beacon performances as members of the Allman Brothers Band to Haynes’ appearance during Tedeschi Trucks’ residency in 2016. Haynes’ Gov’t Mule has also developed a tradition of their own and the historic Upper West Side theatre, where they frequently celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Following a top-notch set one, Tedeschi Trucks returned for their final set of the run with “Sitting Here In Limbo”, “Show Me”, “Let Me Get By”, “Going, Going, Gone”, and “Shame”. From there, Susan welcomed Haynes to the stage, where he’d remain for the rest of the show. To kick off his extended sit-in, Warren and Derek kicked into a duo rendition of Son House‘s “Preachin’ Blues” featuring Haynes on vocals. Next up was a rendition of Elmore James‘s “Done Somebody Wrong”, followed by a spirited run through Dr. John classic, “Walk On Guilded Splinters” with added NOLA flavor from Ricky Gordon on the washboard.

TTB’s own Let Me Get By favorite “I Want More” followed, before segueing smoothly into an electrifying take on the Allman Brothers’ “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” to cap the set. The set-closing “Liz Reed” with Haynes marked the second time during this Beacon stretch that the band closed their second set with a rendition of the Allmans classic featuring a heavy-hitting guitarist from the extended Allman Brothers family (Jimmy Herring played that role on night one). It also marked the second night in a row that the band closed with an ABB favorite following Friday night’s “Whipping Post” set closer.

Finally, for their encore, the band returned to the stage with Warren Haynes on the backup vocalist riser for an appropriate cover of The Beatles‘ “With A Little Help From My Friends”, sung in the style of Joe Cocker‘s iconic Woodstock performace.

Next up for Tedeschi Trucks Band is a performance at Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland in Kansas City, MO on October 30th. For a full list of the band’s upcoming shows, head to their website.
