Tedeschi Trucks Band soared through the Merriam Theater last night in Philadelphia with another spectacular evening of music. While the husband and wife duo has suffered an unimaginable few months of losses with Butch Trucks, Col. Bruce Hampton, and Gregg Allman, the twelve piece band shows no signs of slowing down. Having started their tour in Jacksonville, Florida only a few hours after the news broke that Gregg had passed away, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have proven that truly, “the road goes on forever.”
That particular Jacksonville tour opener featured Tedeschi Trucks Band’s live debut of the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More.” In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Trucks recounts sitting backstage, preparing for the show while thinking about the loss of Gregg Allman, and putting on “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More. “That was when it hit home. You hear that voice; you think about what he was thinking about right then. That’s when the emotions take over,” he said.
On Saturday night, Tedeschi Trucks Band played “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More” to open their second set in honor of the Allman Brothers Band. Many who were there will admit how the song hit home for them, too. Trucks also snuck a “Blue Sky” jam toward the end of a rocking “Anyday,” subtly preparing fans for what would come later in the night. It was ABB heaven.

The rest of the night mixed an impressive setlist of originals and covers, including Leonard Cohen‘s “Bird On A Wire,” The Beatles‘ “Within You, Without You,” Charles Segar‘s “Key To The Highway,” Bob Dylan‘s “Don’t Think Twice,” Santana‘s “Soul Sacrifice,” and more.
