The Beatles have announced a worldwide release of some rare recordings from their Hollywood Bowl performances in the mid-1960’s. The album, The Beatles: Live at the Hollywood Bowl, will come out this fall, in conjunction with a new documentary by Ron Howard called Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years. While the band originally put out the platinum-selling The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl back in 1977, this new release includes a completely different tracklisting, as well as four previously unreleased songs from the same performances.

The recordings come from three concert experiences in August of 1964 and 1965, and were remixed and mastered by George Martin‘s son, Giles Martin, and engineer Sam Okell at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

“Technology has moved on since my father worked on the material all those years ago,” Martin explains in a statement. “Now there’s improved clarity, and so the immediacy and visceral excitement can be heard like never before. … What we hear now is the raw energy of four lads playing together to a crowd that loved them. This is the closest you can get to being at the Hollywood Bowl at the height of Beatlemania.”

The Beatles: Live at the Hollywood Bowl will release on September 9th in CD and digital platform, while a vinyl LP is due on November 18th. The physical copies include a 24-page booklet with liner notes by David Fricke.
