The Beatles will reissue a majority of their LPs in mono on 180-gram vinyl on September 9th. They will be available individually and as a limited-edition 14-LP box set called The Beatles in Mono.
The Beatles have always had a preference for mono, and until 1968 released their albums in mono and stereo formats. The mono albums were even remastered for vinyl at Abbey Road Studios.
Unlike The Beatles in Mono CD box which was released back in 2009, the new vinyl versions were made without any digital technology. Engineer Sean Magee and supervisor Steve Berkowitz used techniques from the ’60s, working in the very room where most of the Beatles albums were originally cut.
The box set contains The Beatles nine UK albums and the US compiled Magical Mystery Tour and the Mono Masters collection of non-track albums. It includes a hardback book with new essays, a history of the mastering process, and rare studio photos.
