The Black Crowes brought their Happiness Bastards Tour to a close over the weekend with two shows at The Capitol Theatre featuring support from George Porter Jr. & Runnin’ Pardners. Landing in Port Chester, NY just before Christmas, the Crowes got in the holiday spirit with a pair of festive debuts, Clarence Carter‘s “Back Door Santa” and Chuck Berry‘s “Run Rudolph Run”.

After spending the better part of 2024 on the road touring in support of their first new album in 15 years, Happiness Bastards, The Black Crowes played a mix of new and classic material with minimal repeats. Night one (Saturday, December 21st) included songs from the band’s first three albums like the opening “No Speak No Slave” (from 1992’s The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion), “Cursed Diamond” and “Descending” (from 1994’s Amorica), and “She Talks to Angels” (from the band’s 1990 debut, Shake Your Money Maker), as well as a few standout covers including David Bowie‘s “The Jean Genie”, T. Rex‘s “20th Century Boy”, and, of course, Otis Redding‘s “Hard to Handle”. After closing the main set with fan favorites “Jealous Again” and “Remedy”, the band debuted “Back Door Santa” by Clarence Carter.

Night two (Sunday, December 22nd) began with a pair of songs off Happiness Bastards, “Bedside Manners” and “Rats and Clowns”, and continued with more classic tunes and covers of The Rolling Stones (“Rocks Off”), The Velvet Underground (“Oh! Sweet Nuthin'” featuring Rich Robinson on lead vocals), and The Undisputed Truth (“Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”). The band also played hits like “Soul Singing” and “Thorn in My Pride” before once again capping the set with “Jealous Again” and “Remedy”. Sunday’s encore started with “Torn and Frayed” by The Rolling Stones, and the Black Crowes debut of Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run” brought the run, and the tour, to a joyful and triumphant end.
