The Bogie Band featuring Joe Russo has detailed plans for its debut album, The Prophets in The City. Set to arrive on March 25th via Royal Potato Family, the announcement arrives alongside the title track, “The Prophets in The City (Arrival, Balance, Discipline, Joy)”.
With The Bogie Band, Joe Russo teams up frequent collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Stuart Bogie. Primarily known for his saxophone work in Antibalas, Bogie previously joined Russo for celebrations of Jerry Garcia and Howard Wales‘ jazz-fusion Hooteroll? album. With The Bogie Band featuring Joe Russo, the two musicians weave an original tapestry of instrumental music devoted to their home of New York City.
“The music we’ve created here revels in the human mysteries that unfold in New York City, basking in its connections, ironies, and myths,” Bogie said in a statement. “Through observing its humanity, we hope to invoke the underlying world of the spirits.”
“The Prophets in The City (Arrival, Balance, Discipline, Joy)” is indicative of the wider Bogie Band ft. Russo catalog as it contains only percussion and horns. The expansive lineup of over two dozen musicians creates dense sounds by exploring a wide range of wind and percussive elements. “The Prophets in The City” clocks in at a sprawling 8:46 and showcases the group’s range as it moves from world music to jazz and everywhere in between.
“These are deep, thoughtful, beautiful and powerful compositions that could have only come from the mind and heart of Stuart Bogie,” Russo said. “I’m so proud of this record and can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Along with the album announcement and single, The Bogie Band featuring Joe Russo has announced a pair of album release shows at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia (3/24) and the flagship Brooklyn Bowl (3/26). Tickets for the 24th and 26th shows go on sale on Friday at 12 p.m. ET.
